James Thomas Merriam is a dedicated public servant, community advocate, and lifelong resident of Britt, Iowa. Through his work in the Public Works Department, he takes pride in maintaining and improving the town he calls home, valuing the flexibility his role provides to stay connected to both his family and community.

Family is at the center of James’s life. He and his wife, Jaime, are proud parents to four children—Haven, Kase, Kessler, and Kolt. Together, they stay active with sports and activities, prioritizing quality time and mutual support.

Beyond his professional responsibilities, James is passionate about investing in young people through athletics. As a youth coach, he focuses on developing not only athletic ability but also teamwork, confidence, and character. Coaching his own children has made this commitment especially meaningful.

James grew up in Britt and graduated from Garner-Hayfield High School in 2001. He continued his education at North Iowa Area Community College and Iowa Central Community College before returning to his hometown to raise his family and serve the community that shaped him.

In his free time, James enjoys following his favorite teams, including the Iowa Hawkeyes, Indianapolis Colts, North Carolina Basketball, and Eagles Athletics.
